Coldplay - Violet Hill Concept

This storyboard is an abstract music video concept for the song "Violet Hill" by Coldplay, created from paper and leather textures, which were chosen for me at random as a part of a design challenge. I chose to focus on the mood of the music to guide my approach, rather than lyrics. There's a cinematic quality to the song that, for me, it evoked a bright, but sullen winter's day. I imagined myself standing knee-deep in the cold, hand at my forehead to shield my eyes as I squinted at rays of sunlight beaming through the branches and leaves and falling snow. I thought of life, death, and limbo.

In this concept, we follow leaves of leather as they float into a bewitching, otherworldly realm.

The leaves transmute into origami birds that take on a life of their own — autonomous, yet instinctively craving proximity to the light.

But there's a weakness — a fixation — that tethers them to their previous world, overtaking them like an avalanche.

For them, crossing the void is impossible. We exit the scene, leaving them behind.
